Up early because Gloria is expecting us by 9, left at 7 after a short walk on the beach, made really good time, such good time that I short changed the dogs on their walks, but I figured today is a me day. We came across our first wind turbne coming into Port Elizabeth, looks very pretty, I will definately get one for my farm.
Came in to town through Koega, looks pretty, smells foul, drove straight on the highway up to Glorias place, just off the Cape road, spent a lovely day with her, leaving the dogs in her little backyard and going off shopping, lovely fruit and veg that makes all their own ready made meals so I got to stock up on some fresh food for a change, ran into the cousin, said hallo Barry, how are you, he very politely said hallo back, I said you don't know me but everyone knows you, he laughed and said, unfortunately so, he looks in real life no different to his TV persona, nice man, Gloria told me he lives here and she sees him often.
Gloria burned the warts off my face that have been bugging me, I hope they fall off for good, she doesn't think they will, I am more optimistic, she is very happy here after leaving Joburg a few years back and coming back to the city of her birth, she has a nice little place and seems settled.
We hit the road after lunch and made good time down the N3 until we hit the Thornhill turnoff, Gloria had told me about a new shop here that is part of an agri-rural development, I popped in to see it and it is stunning, they make fresh, natural foods, breads and farm produce as a rural co-op development and the place is packed with lunchtimers gorging themselves, I had to phone her and tell her to make a trip out here for lunch one day, I was in shit though because I forgot to get petrol when I left PE and my tank is empty, I asked where the nearest perol station is and was told to go to Thornhill 15 km away, turned out to be 4km away, what is with people and distances, anyway filled up and stayed on the old R102 all the way to Jeffrey's Bay and oh what a wonderful beach and river full of water birds and Sunday picnickers, this is gorgeous and I am going no further tonight.
We walked, I fed the dogs, we walked down to the beach, a long way out again, then met some locals who we chatted to for ages, they told me where to go tomorrow for the things I want and where to buy good fresh food made well, Gloria phoned to check that I had made it this far and we settled in for the night, still no connection, managed to get one at Gloria's place but felt it was rude to spend the little time we had together updating my blog, so it will have to wait for later, no idea when I will get to update it but I think it is only the girls and Lorraine that are reading it, Lorraine should be stuck in Botswana and has other things on her mind for now anyway and I don't think the girls are too fussed about what I'm getting up to on a daily basis.
So made some coffee, had some dinner, and caught up with my writing, good relaxing day, did about 200km today but did not feel like it as most of it was straight and easy on the highway, boring travel but expedient.
Night
